I am not a techie. And if being techie is someone who knows how to use Photoshop, then I’m really not. I envy those who do. I mean, they take so-so photos of anything and everything but it comes out great after a few minutes of tweaking the photo in Photoshop. I wish I could really do that. Then I would look flawless, blooming and ageless in all my pictures. I can’t even put captions or watermarks on my photos. Anyway, I found this site that lets you create funny pictures. It’s like an online photoshop but all you do is upload your own photos and they do the rest. The site has many templates or effects that you can choose from. And the best thing about it is it’s free. You can send what you just made through email to your friends and save it for later use. I plan to make several funny photos and post them on my Facebook account and make my profile pic more fun to look at. Why don’t you try it? The website is PicJoke.com. I even made some and posted them here for you to see. And they make new photo effect every single day. EVERY DAY - NEW PHOTO EFFECT.

Drug is a huge problem in our society today, most especially for the youth. How many cases or crimes have been reported in the news that almost always the use of drugs is the cause? Yes, money is not the only root of all evil nowadays, drug is too. But we can prevent our kids from taking drugs. It’s not easy because there is peer pressure and the influence of media on our daily lives. Our youth is also surrounded by false idols in the name of Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and more. Our children idolize these people because they think they represent the generation today. But all they do is set bad examples for the young. Drunk driving, smoking pot and taking drugs have become commonplace that our kids don’t know what is right and wrong anymore. This is where our firm hands, open communication and parental love come in. Again, it’s not easy. We have to be creative when talking to our children so we may not sound like we’re preaching. Still, sometimes no matter what we do, they still lose track of what’s good. Oftentimes, the influence is too much for them to handle that they give in to drugs. But we can’t let go. In fact, they would need more guidance and more love. This is where drug rehabilitation comes into play. We need help as much as our kids need them. There are different treatments for drug addiction depending on the level of dependency. A drug rehabilitation in Michigan offers a free service to help you find the best treatment possible for your loved one. They have counselors who can show where to begin with the treatment and the road to recovery. There are different types of treatment programs: inpatient, out-patient, residential centers. But no matter which type, you can be sure to find the help your loved one needs.

I have a new gym membership. Another branch of Gold’s Gym is being put up here on the 5th and 6ht floors of our condo building and it will be open, hopefully, in September. I took advantage of the gym’s opening promo which is 50% off their usual annual membership fee. I used my credit card to avail of the 12 months, interest free promo. It’s really cheap since I would be paying around a thousand bucks a month for 12 months. And to think that everything (locker room, gym equipment, towels, steam and sauna rooms) is new, it feels like I got a very good bargain. BTW, there are a few more slots. Leave me a message if you’re interested and if you live near and around Timog area.

I used to call my mother at home or at her place of work several times before, even though I knew that my phone bill would leave me in shock for several days. I didn’t know about international phone cards back then. If I had known about Manila phone cards, I wouldn’t have stopped calling. I was alwalys dying to see how she’d get through the news of her cancer. I kind of knew she really didn’t want to talk about it. But I was able, with great selflessness, to overcome my mother’s objections to owning up to the bad news and let her realize that it was for real. That it was not a dream or a joke. That she had to face up to it one way or another.
The family takes this news seriously. Since we are Filipinos, and use the telephone for every other purpose except to tell how we feel about one another, it falls to a barrage of asking how everything is and the weather when we should be telling how we really feel about one another. She’s doing ok now and she’d be visiting us later this year. I’m so looking forward to it.

I love Kopi Roti’s kaya toast and soft-boiled eggs. And it’s such a blessing that we are near one. Before moving to our new place, it took me almost an hour driving to and from just to get my fix. Now, I visit the place at least three times a week for breakfast. I just think it’s the perfect breakfast. I still feel full come lunchtime, so I normally eat a little for lunch. Try out the Tomas Morato branch. It’s now bigger after the renovation that took almost forver to finish.

Most of our out-of-towns this summer almost always involved swimming, whether at the beach or the pool. Kids love to swim and that includes my little girl. Here are proofs of just how much she loves to swim.

I had to stay home most of the day yesterday waiting for the electrician. I wrote in my other blog about the busted lights in the balcony and just recently in the bathroom. When we bought those light fixtures, they came with light bulbs. And my contractor told me that the manufacturers normally put low quality bulbs that only last a short time and he suggested replacing those or buying extras. But I thought it would be a waste of money because what should I do with those existing light bulbs. It turned out he was right. I should have bought extras because they only lasted a month. So I had to go to the DIY shop in our building last Thursday to buy good quality light bulbs. Well, they are a bit expensive but in the long run, I am actually saving more. By the way, I wanted to replace the light bulbs myself but I remembered that one of my friends was literally ‘electrocuted’ when she tried changing her light bulb at home. She should have contacted Raleigh Electricians because they know better. Like what I did. And now we have light. And I didn’t get fried like what happened to my dear friend.

At my age, I worry about my children’s future. As a single mom who manages to get by from day to day, I tend to think a lot about the possibilities of emergencies and other surprise expenses and finding myself not able to cope emotionally and most of all financially. I still rely heavily on my Father who shoulders half of my eldest son’s education. But he’s getting old and I’m at that age where I should be the one taking care of my parents. Even my Mom who is abroad still gives financial aid whenever the need arises. It’s a shame that I can’t do the same for them. I’ve thought about entering the work force again. But at my age, who would hire me? When companies nowadays are downsizing and cutting back on employees’ salaries, I can’t be a full-time employee and only get a certain amount as compensation. Do you get the picture? It’s probably best if I have my own business to run. But the only setback there is the initial capital to start a new business. One could go crazy thinking about these things. It was a good thing I came across WFG. The company gives equal opportunities to women 23 or 43 of age. As WFG associate, you can help families plan their financial futures while establishing your fture as well. When you join WFG, you will be mentored by like-minded individuals who are there to help you succeed and be an independent business owner. But the best part is, you don’t need a big amount to be in this business. For just $100, you can join WFG and be on your way to having your own business. I think this is a great opportunity for any single mom who is looking for her place in the corporate or business world while raising her family.

I’m craving for something sweet now. Yesterday, I was sipping Kikkoman soy sauce. This happens before my monthly period and I gain about 5 pounds from the constant cravings for high calorie food. That’s why I can’t keep my weight down. Just when I thought I have lost one or two pounds, here comes my period to bring it all back plus a few pounds more. And I feel so bloated. And I want this…
