don’t let the bedbugs bite

June 30th, 2009

I try to save money as much as possible.  And I don’t usually buy anything for the house unless it’s really necessary.  I’m not the type of person who has every kitchen gadget in the market.  I would rather buy clothes.  That’s bad, too.  Anyway before moving to our new home I had this 5 year old bed which had started giving us the itch.  Itch meaning itch from insect bites.  I thought they were mosquito bites so I tried using an insect repellant to kill the mosquitoes.  But we still had insect bites.  My sister suspected bed bugs and she was right.  She said I had all the signs of bed bug infestation—bites, dark spots on the mattress etc.  She suggested several bed bugs treatments including replacing the bed and pillows. And now, we’re bedbug-free and we have a new mattress.

botox injections

June 30th, 2009

Alright, I’m not getting any younger.  I know this because I can feel it.  I can no longer go up several flights of stairs without stopping for air.  My sleep is erratic.  I can no longer manage to sleep for eight hours.  My father says that it is a sign of old age when you can’t sleep for more than five hours at night.  More than that, I actually see signs of aging.  I have age spots.  I thought there were freckles but my dermatologist told me they were liver spots.  Liver and aging, they go together.  And I have wrinkles.  Yes, I have them around my eyes, my mouth and on my forehead.  I can’t smile without my wrinkles revealing themselves.  Unfortunate but true.  I’ve considered botox and anti-aging creams and facial treatments.  I’ve done the latter but it has no lasting effect.  With botox, I heard that results are immediate and effects of one session lasts up to six months.  But I’m still not convinced after reading the possible side effects of botox injections.  Yes, you only inject the substance in your face but side effects can manifest throughout your body.  Which is what I don’t want.  So I might put it off for another year or two.  We’ll see.

house renovation

June 27th, 2009

My uncle is planning a house renovation next summer. Actually he intended to change the paint color of the entire house including the steel gate and fence this summer but the rains came early. So he had to postpone it. It’s a big renovation and he only has a handful of people to help him. But he just bought this Pump Sprayer that will make any painting job five times faster than with a regular paint brush. You can get one yourself and it’s available online in the UK via RonSeal.co.uk.  Anyway, he could actually finish the project, if all things go well, in one month. Then, he could celebrate his 60th birthday in his newly renovated home. And we could all see it.

chickens

June 26th, 2009

Every vacation when we were still young, we’d go to the country to visit our grandparents and stay there for almost a month. This had been routine for so many years. In the country, you wake up early and do some chores at home. I remember that my sisters and I would often help out our grandfather feed the chickens. I remember I hated it because the place smelled of old poop. My grandfather’s farm was not equipped with a chicken coop. Back then, the materials used and the construction of it were very random. There was really no plan compared with the chicken coops today. If my grandfather had known about the chicken coop and about the many good reviews about it, he would have opted to have that in his farm.

my mom

June 26th, 2009

I used to call my mother at home or at her place of work several times before, even though I knew that my phone bill would leave me in shock for several days. I didn’t know about international phone cards back then. If I had known about Manila phone cards, I wouldn’t have stopped calling. I was alwalys dying to see how she’d get through the news of her cancer. I kind of knew she really didn’t want to talk about it. But I was able, with great selflessness, to overcome my mother’s objections to owning up to the bad news and let her realize that it was for real. That it was not a dream or a joke. That she had to face up to it one way or another.

The family takes this news seriously. Since we are Filipinos, and use the telephone for every other purpose except to tell how we feel about one another, it falls to a barrage of asking how everything is and the weather when we should be telling how we really feel about one another. She’s doing ok now and she’d be visiting us later this year. I’m so looking forward to it.

shopping at Plaza101

June 25th, 2009

Sometimes shopping is a chore.  That’s weird, right?  Especially coming from a girl who loves to shop.  Why did I even say that?  Because I’m a person who loves bargains and sales.  And oftentimes, buying a single item takes so much time and effort because I still check different stores and shops for the best price.  Is it even worth it?  I don’t know.  But I’ve discovered a different shopping experience lately.  It’s online shopping that’s making shopping on foot obsolete.  Everything you can find in stores now is now available online.  You can also find more discounts online.  Even coupons.  For instance, I’ve just seen these Diamond Harmony Coupons that I can probably use to buy an anklet which surprisingly, I still don’t have in my jewelry collection.  I saw this at Plaza101.com which makes Price Comparison and shopping online a breeze. Not only that.  Imagine a shopping site where you can see comments and feedbacks from other shoppers about the products they just bought.  And these feedbacks are important so you’d know if what you’re purchasing is even worth your money.  And while you shop, you can even make friends with other online shoppers, make a wish list and share that wish list to your friends and family.  By the way, did I tell you that you can find almost everything there.

bling bling

June 24th, 2009

I was surprised when my 7 year old niece told me that she wanted a bling bling.  I thought she wanted a toy but she explained that bling is jewelry and that it’s the in thing among the young generation, particularly hiphop crowd.  Why she even wanted one is beyond me.  But apparently Bling Bling Jewelry is not all about hiphop.  I mean after browsing around HipHopBling.com, I found pieces that I think suit me well and I’m not even hiphop.
