punk rockers

April 30th, 2009

Do you remember the 80’s when punk rock was so in?  Yes, I did dress the part but the whole attitude and the punk rock lifestyle was not my thing.  But it would be nice to go back to that time and really play the part. And it would have been much better if the 80’s had punk personals and some kind of online dating sites like today.  Anyway, today’s punk rockers are having much more fun than we did.

online shopping is better

April 28th, 2009

I was at the mall the other day to look for drinking water filter.  Sadly, there is no water refilling station in our building and buying bottled water everytime can be very expensive.  Well, I found one and it’s doing its job now in our home.  While there, I also looked at shoes, particularly boots.  With our unpredictable weather, sunny then raining the next, rain boots is a must.

And I can’t help looking at running shoes as well.  Just like I wrote in my previous posts, I’ve been meaning to start an exercise program and running seems to be the best choice.  No membership fee needed.  But choosing the right shoes was a major problem.  And the sales people weren’t much of a help.  They didn’t even know the features and can’t differentiate between tennis shoes and wedding shoes.  I mean, it’s better to shop online.  At least, there are descriptions. And have you heard about Shopwiki?  It practically seeks out every shops and stores online based on your keyword search.  It’s so cool because you would know that you’re getting almost all the choices in the web.  And the best thing about it is you can do it in the comforts of your own homes.  No need to go outside.  No need to be stuck in traffic and no more walking around just to look for the best price.  And there are descriptions.  Now, I can buy running shoes and wedge boots at home.  So convenient.

mystery calls

April 26th, 2009

I don’t know what is worse, having no sleep or experiencing a very deep sound sleep and being jolted out of your slumber by a phone call and all you hear are deep breaths coming from a person you know is up to no good.  How many have I received prank calls?  Too many, actually.  And these pranksters seem to be awake when everyone else is sleeping.  Well, my sister suggested to turn off the phone ringer at night so I won’t be disturbed.  But what if it’s an important call or even an emergency call from my mother abroad or my father who lives alo, ne?  What are the chances, right?  But you’ll never know.  Then I heard about Caller Wiki. It lets you identify who your mystery caller is just by entering their phone number and you can even read additional information about the number that others have posted and also enter yours.   So always have a pen and paper ready and do jot down the phone number.  I guess once these idiots know that you have a way of finding out their location and their identity, they won’t be bothering you again.  And if they still persist, you can report him or her to the police.

my lucky son

April 26th, 2009

My son is lucky when it comes to girlfriends.  He always seems to get the studious goodie types.  His first girlfriend was the school valedictorian and his present belongs to the dean’s list.  And these girls have always treated my son a special way.  His first girlfriend gifted him a cross-stitched baby photo of him.  The GF said that she had slaved over it for weeks.  She would find time to stitch after school and study time at home.  And now his present girl made a video for him.  She contacted all my son’s friends from his former school and his classmates now to create a video greeting him on his birthday.  Which I will upload next time…

hassle-free shopping

April 25th, 2009

Have you ever had times when you were short on cash and you badly needed to buy something essential or not even really important?  I admit, it’s not everyday I have cash on hand.  And oftentimes, I don’t carry that much cash.  Aside from being impractical and dangerous (because robbers and thieves are everywhere), I am not used to it.  I don’t feel comfortable.  When I carry more than a certain amount, I check my bag countless times and see if everything is in place.  It’s not fun.  It’s actually quite irritating.  And what’s even more irritating are shops who don’t accept credit cards.  In this day and age, almost everyone has credit cards and uses them.  And merchants or shop owners should be able to make certain changes to be competitive and successful.  That’s why I get turned off when I encounter shops who only accept cash.  And eevn online merchants who have limited forms or modes of payment.  Don’t they realize that it’s bad business?  Limited is only good when it comes to fashion but not with other things.  I mean, what’s so hard about credit card processing?  Especially now that getting approved for credit card processing is easier than ever.  I have seen even small businesses getting approved and having their own terminals.  Even fastfood deliveries now offer credit card payment.  They have a wireless gadget that lets them swipe your card and get an approval anywhere. You can now use your credit card even when you’re home.  Talk about hassle-free shopping.  Have food delivered to you right in your own doorstep.   I’ve tried it and I think it’s so cool.  And this companies do not only offer credit card processing.  They also offer e-commerce, payroll solutions, check processing and even debit transactions.  So there is no more excuse for merchants and shops.

weekender: don’t worry

April 25th, 2009

We can plant food
in the earth
and it will grow.

It is not a secret.
It is easier to make
than clothes or movies.

We don’t even need to yell at it.
You don’t even need to freak out
or stress,
or whatever you call it
when your jaw gets all tight
like I saw it get that one time
you were mad about your coworker
who cheated you out of that sales commission.

Yeah, you were so mad then.
Couldn’t stop talking about it.
Coming up with weird revenge plans
like a TV caper crook.

Can’t even remember that job now.
Can’t even remember what it felt like to call someone a coworker.
But you remember the food we ate.

Juicy Watermelons.
Came up out of the ground
took no effort at all
just time.
like a baby
or anything else that truly matters.

unlimited is key

April 25th, 2009

I’m using a limited wireless internet connection now and writing a post is truly difficult especially when you want to write something significant but time is an issue.  How can anyone write a decent post when all you think about is the money you pay for each second or minute that passes?  I hope internet connection is free.  Then, everyone can expect to read better and much more interesting posts.  It’s the same with watching a movie.  Do you still remember the time when you can watch a movie in a theater one screening after another and you pay only once?  Now, if you want to watch the same movie, you have to pay again.  It’s a rip off if you ask me.  No wonder piracy is a problem.  What else is a rip off?  Webhosting.  Yes, webhosting that does not offer unlimited domains, email accounts and customer service and after sales.  I think unlimited is the key to happiness.  While limited is the element that ruins it all.  Okay, I’m being melodramatic here.  Anyway, one has a choice when it comes to webhosting.  I suggest you research first, determine your needs before getting your own webhosting.  For more info, go to webhostinggeeks.com.

home ideas

April 24th, 2009

I have always loved visiting and reading home improvement blogs especially when I started our very own home renovation.  Quite honestly, this Home Improvement Blog gave me plenty of inspirations and ideas and I have adapted some of the designs on my home.  I mean, what’s not to love?  The beautiful layouts and color combinations I often see and read about are enough to want to live in houses that possess these qualities.  And the bookshelves I had made are a copy of a much larger bookshelf I saw one time.  I just love the tips and techniques they have.  They’re easy and practical.  I’m not a designer and I wouldn’t have come up with these ideas if not for this.  A big help, really.

i love perfumes

April 24th, 2009

Everyone who really knows me would vouch that I love designer perfumes.  And I always have perfume inside my bag, my car and even inside my gym bag.  I can’t live without perfume in my life.  Before my second child, I would often buy myself the latest perfumes and fragrances.  That was before.  Now I limit myself to just buying during the Holiday season or on my birthdays. And if I can’t really help it, I would try to watch out for sales.   Perfumes can be quite expensive and having two kids, it’s just not possible to buy on a whim.

everything but the kitchen sink

April 23rd, 2009

When I was renovating our unit, one of the first things I wanted changed was the kitchen sink.  When the unit was turned over to us, it had a generic sink, faucet and other fixtures.  I don’t even know what material it was made from.  Nothing really spectacular.  The former kitchen sink was shallow and looked like it would rust in no time at all.  That is not a good idea since the kitchen is the busiest place in any household.  That’s why everything there should be durable and really built to last.  So it took me weeks before I could find the ideal kitchen sink from a vast array of stainless steel sinks choices.  And what I chose was single, large, deep and of course, made of stainless steel.  Stainless steel is easy to clean and I’m quite sure I can expect many many years of good performance.  And to think it’s not even that expensive.  It’s affordable, actually.  It’s within the budget I set but I’m not really afraid to go overboard especially when it comes to something crucial like the kitchen.  I can skip a few good meals or forgo shopping for new shoes just to have the kitchen of my dreams.
